Best Nursing
Bra
New mothers who plan on
breastfeeding realize soon enough that finding the best nursing bra should be given top priority. Though a good
nursing bra isn’t going to solve every problem that you can run across while breastfeeding, it can help make the
whole experience a lot easier and lot more comfortable.
If you want to make sure that you’re getting the best nursing
bras, you should realize that there isn’t one certain type or brand that is just right for everyone. A lot
depends on how you’re built. Every woman’s breasts naturally swell when they’re pregnant and when they’re
breastfeeding. Large breasted women, however, may end up experiencing more discomfort during these times
simply because of the law of gravity. Smaller-breasted women need support too, but in different ways and
different areas.
You should start shopping for your nursing bra when you are 8 or 9
months pregnant so you’ll not have to worry about that after the baby is born. At this stage of pregnancy the
breasts are usually close to the size they’ll be when you’re breastfeeding. You should take into
consideration, though, that they will swell more after your milk comes in. Don’t try to go by your
pre-pregnancy bra size when shopping for your nursing bra. Chances are you won’t ever be that size again,
even after you stop breastfeeding.
Most department stores and all maternity stores sell nursing bras.
Department stores that sell things at overall lower prices, such as Walmart and Target, carry nursing bras.
You definitely don’t want to base your purchase decision on what’s cheapest, but many lower-pricing
department stores sell some very good brands. No matter where you shop, you’re looking for the size, style
and brand that work best for you. Here are a few brands and styles that have proven to be favorites among
breastfeeding women:
Medela - Medela has a long-standing reputation for making what many women believe are the best nursing
bras. The range of nursing bras that they make is impressive. They make nursing them to wear while sleeping,
exercising, relaxing, working or even for when you are out enjoying an evening on the town. Medela bras range
in price from about $15 to over $50. They can be found in most department stores and maternity
stores.
La Leche League - It would be difficult to mistrust a nursing bra sold by La Leche League. They’ve been the
symbol of support for breastfeeding women for over 50 years. LLL also has a variety of styles that keep
comfort and efficiency in mind. You can buy La Leche League bras at higher-end department stores at around
$40 to $50 apiece, or you can purchase them online from their website.
Playtex - Yes, good old reliable Playtex, which has been around for as long as most of us can remember,
has a good line of nursing bras. Though it might not offer as many different styles as Medela or La Leche
League, Playtex makes some good nursing bras at reasonable prices. They are certainly worth checking out, and
almost all department stores and maternity stores sell them.
The best nursing bras for you are the ones that
you can live with comfortably every day. Even if you have to spend a little more to get ones that are just
right, it’s worth the investment.
